Rock Climbing for Strength and Thrill

Climbing is the act of going up a mountain, hill, any steep terrain, or artificial wall. Climbing comes in many types, each having its own features and methods. There are several ways to categorize it. For instance, it can vary based on the area you are climbing. Using this category, its types include: Mountaineering or Mountain Climbing, Ice Climbing, Indoor Climbing, and Rock Climbing.

Rock Climbing has become a major sport generally a risky sport, which needs physical strength and endurance, it poses a different kind of challenge, excitement, and adrenaline rush. This is probably one of the many reasons why a lot of people are so excited about this activity.

Rock Climbing Styles

Rock Climbing basically is of two common styles as traditional rock climbing and Sport Climbing. However, there are other types, too. All of the types are described a little under here.

Traditional Rock Climbing: In this technique a rock climber attached through a Sit Harness with a climbing rope and the other end of the rope is attached to your climbing partner. As you climb up, your partner feeds out the rope, as you need through a Belay Device.

Sport Climbing: Instead of using nuts and partner, you have Quick draws. It is a short Sling with a Carabineer on each end. Sport Climbing is mostly face climbing and tends to stay not much longer than two pitches or rope lengths. In addition, with the danger element removed, emphasis can be placed on technique and doing hard moves.

Solo Climbing: Soloing is the freest form of Climbing in the sense that you have only you up there with the birds and the breeze. Instead of focusing on your moves, the Solo Climber is totally dedicated to reach the height. If the Solo Climber falls, it means that he would most likely be injured. So it is the most dangerous technique requires a lot of care.

Mountaineering: Mountaineering involves the thrill to reach the top. It requires a combination of skills. As to reach the top of straight rocks you should try a less difficult path under water or from forest etc.

Ice Climbing: A climber will be able to climb vertical ice, like frozen waterfalls with the help of ice tools like Ice Axes and Crampons etc which are in Ice Climbing. Different equipments are used according to the difference in the nature of the rocks on which you are going to climb.

Indoor Climbing: Indoor climbing helps during adverse conditions. Competitions are organized these days on Indoor Climbing walls, which can also be situated outside. Indoor Climbing provides a great opportunity to learn to climb in a very controlled environment.

There are a lot of more techniques, which makes more physically fit, mentally tough, efficient, strong and perfect in adverse conditions.

Safety and Outdoor Health Guidelines

It is very important to know the possible situations that you can get yourself into. Safety is one of the important concerns in Rock Climbing like other outdoor activity because it is usually done in areas where medical assistance is not frequently available.

Thus every one should be aware about first aids during emergency and techniques to deal with animal and natural hazards.

Rock Climbing Knots

Tying knots is a basic and important skill in all types of Climbing. Knots are very important because they hang out the climber safely in the air and safely caught when any accident happens.

Single Loop Knots: Single loop is useful when you need to throw a rope over something such as a post or when you need to attach something to a loop of rope in rock climbing. With some of these loop knots, the end of the rope can first be wrapped around a person's waist or around a tree before tying the knot. These are further specified as Alpine Butterfly, Bowline, and Figure-Eight Loop.

Double Loop Knots: Two loops are more secure than a single loop of providing a double hold. When lifting or lowering a person, a double-loop knot can be used as a hang. These are again of certain type like Bowline on the Bight, Double Figure Eight Loop, and Double Alpine Butterfly.

Hitches: Hitch is a knot used when tying a rope to something. It has the ability to conform to the size of the object to which it is tied. It has certain styles like Adjustable Grip Hitch, Clove Hitch, and Italian Hitch etc.

Stopper Knots: Stopper knot are type of knot tied at the end of a rope to prevent the end from unraveling or slipping through another knot. Most common types of stopper knot are the overhand knot, where the rope is formed into a loop and the end of the rope threaded through the loop, and the figure-of-eight knot, a more complex knot that produces a larger lump at the end of the rope and one more intricate form is the Ashley Stopper Knot.

Bends: When two ends of rope are tied together from the same rope or from two different ropes with a single knot, the knot is referred to as a bend. These are Alpine Butterfly Bend, Tape Knot, Double Fisherman's Knot etc.
